Among others salmonella can cause symptoms such as

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Dehydration
  • Loss of appetite

in your dog or cat and can even become chronic. The bacteria is also transmittable to humans, who are also facing health risks from an infection. Salmonella bacteria can also be transferred through handling of contaminated pet food.



Especially pregnant women, small children, older people and people with immune disorders are at risk. In several cases each year Salmonella bacteria infections even lead to death. Symptoms of salmonellosis in humans are similar to the symptoms in animals.

It is generally advised to disinfect thoroughly after handling raw food for pets, wash hands and avoid contamination of foods for humans with pet food!
