Help! My dog ate a toothpick!

My dog ate a toothpickToday, I want to talk about a pretty serious matter with you guys – the ingestion of  objects.
Let’s be honest with each other, even the most cautious and watchful owner will probably at some point run into such a situation: Doggie has swallowed something it shouldn’t have.
If we are lucky it is a small, blunt object that is likely to pass the stomach and intestines without causing any harm or even better it is digestible and not poisonous.

But most of the time – that’s just Murphy’s law – it will be something that raises concern, meaning we are talking about something that is either sharp/pointy or big or both of it (worst combination) and can cause harm “inside”.

Some thoughts on a homemade over a manufactured diet for dogs with kidney problems

Our last Bull Terrier eventually died of kidney failure at the age of 14. This is something, some people connect to aging and count as inevitable. I am not so sure. However, we will never know, if it was a birth defect or the consequence of all the medication she had been taking over the years for her various issues.
Her kidneys had not been monitored for a long time, only during the last one or two years or so.
That was when we also learned about limited ingredient diets.

New fun stuff in my Bull Terrier fun store

Guys, I do not often use my blog to advertise my merchandise. Just as everything else here, I am mainly doing it, just because I like it! I like seeing my cartoons and artwork on nice products.
But I have to admit, I am a little excited to hear what you think because I’ve spent a fair amount of time and effort recently on overhauling my entire Zazzle store, making the storefront and my products more appealing and adding new motifs and items. More will be on the way. I invite everyone already looking around for some nice Christmas gifts to visit my store and see if there’s something in the box for them.

Be safe, everyone!

This has sadly already been a devastating summer for a lot of people, and more disaster is on its way. I hope that all of you fellow Floridians have found a safe spot already to wait this monster out. As some of you may know, we live in Florida, too. Our thoughts are with all of you – be safe, everyone!

Nipping, jumping and rough play in adult Bull Terriers

Dog owners frequently contact me with questions. An all-time hit are undesired behaviors in dogs of all ages. I have taken one of the recent request for advice as the basis of this essay, because the problem situation seems to apply to a lot of situations owners experience in one way or the other.

Dog owners often find themselves confronted with are undesired habits of their dogs, which can show in a variety of behaviors. Bull Terriers are little bull dozers even when they are happy and just want to make fun or show affection. And when young they come with a bunch of quirks in addition, such as nipping and roughhousing, which are all too typical. But that does not mean we have to accept them as the owners.
We all know that the best time to work on those undesired behaviors is as early as possible while the dog is still young and has not settled into routines and behaviors yet, in order to avoid bad habits from developing and establishing and our dogs from taking them as “normal behavior”.
